It's half way thru the year and I’m checking my massive to do list that I began at the beginning of this year and ask myself, what have I done? What have I been doing? The answer to that question is a lot of stuff and still so much left undone. I’m happy to be at the five year mark of Pretty Girl Cupcakery, but there’s so much more that on my brain and creative juices flowing, that I can’t help to wish that I was at a different place by now. The take away at this point, LaKisa, you really have already done so much.
I’m very critical of myself and others around me are just as critical, if not harder on me, than I to myself. It’s pressure. I remind myself, diamonds are created under pressure and I take that as one of my mantras to all that I aspire to be.
I’ve created the “Beyond Pretty Journal” idea to share creativity, thoughts, fun and special moments, entrepreneurial journey, and more. It’s a very scary to reveal yourself in this way, but if I continue to wait for the perfect me, I’ll never get….”Beyond Pretty”….corny, I know. Lol.
It’s not January 1st, but first of July 1st and still a perfect time for me to start some things over again. I hope that you can relate, share and enjoy.
Hello Pretty Girl!
It's been 5 years since I started this journey from the world of Real Estate to Cupcakes. I'm often asked, what made you start this business. It's never one easy or simple answer for me. I've primarily wanted to make my mark and do something to represent who I am. I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur, always. I ventured into other areas of life trying to pursue a more "traditional" career path, but at the end of the day, I come back to simply doing my own thing.
I'm very proud of what I've been able to accomplish. The food industry is extremely tough. The profit margins are low and the competition is high. People continue to say, cupcakes are a fad. I'm happy to say, were still here. When you enter a rat race like this, you have to be ready to step on your competition like a cockroach. That's what I heard Barbara Cochran say, while watching Shark Tank. That phrase re-energized me in thinking how I handle making business decisions. You'll hear more about that later.
So, Pretty Girl Cupcakery was born out of having a heart to encourage and celebrate other women. It's combines my passion for food, entertaining and living a fun lifestyle. No, I don't do my baking and I don't have to. It's the only hat that I do not wear in running my business, but I've learned it's about working smarter not harder. My goal is to sell 1,000+ cupcakes a day, not bake 1,000+ a day, just to sit on the shelf. It's the business of what I do, that keeps me going each and everyday.
But let's not focus on just the cupcakes, let's start looking beyond to the next phase of Pretty Girl Cupcakery. We're off to plan more events and cultivate a beautiful life. We're finally in a great location at National Harbor and we have an awesome space. I aim to create an environment in which people want to see themselves having the most special moments.
In creating this blog, I'll begin to share more food, entertaining ideas and good places to go. If you seen my personal social media pages, you already know how much I love to eat and enjoy life. I'm looking forward to the next phase of this chapter. I thank you today for you support and look forward to a brighter future with all of you.
